Ready for another “Rode It! Loved It!” installment (reviews of established attractions that are exclusively for paid subscribers)? Rumors have been swirling that Kingda Ka, the world’s tallest and fastest coaster, is not long for this world. The rumors may or may not be true, but on the chance that they turn out to be correct, I’ve decided to turn the spotlight on the mighty New Jersey beast this month. Wait a sec; you’re not a paid subscriber? I hope you enjoy my twice-a-week articles. But know that paid subscriptions are the only way I make any money here at the ad-free About Theme Parks. Journalists deserve to get paid for their work, right? So kindly consider becoming a paid subscriber and support my writing. Plus you’ll get great, bonus content like this review.

Update: Just about the time I originally posted this review here at About Time Parks on Thursday, November 14, Six Flags Great Adventure announced that it would, in fact, be permanently closing Kingda Ka. The park will use the site to build a “multi-world-record-breaking launch roller coaster” that will debut in 2026.

3.25 (out of 5)

Less a roller coaster and more a thrill machine designed for bragging rights, Kingda Ka is a one-trick pony. Granted, it’s a heckuva trick and a once-in-a-lifetime rush. But once is probably enough. Despite its record-breaking 456-foot tower and insane speed, Kingda Ka just may leave you feeling flat.
