Exclusive: DarKoaster to see light of day in May
Busch Gardens announces opening date for its newest coaster
ATP subscribers, I apologize for overloading your inbox today. I know you’ve already received my Thursday article. (And if you are a paid subscriber, you also got this month’s ART Talks audio narration of today’s article.) But the good folks at Busch Gardens Williamsburg contacted me with this breaking news. If you’re not a subscriber, know that I generally send out two articles each week. Kindly consider subscribing! There are free and paid subscriber options.
One of the most anticipated coasters of the 2023 season now has an opening date. In an exclusive to About Theme Parks, Busch Gardens Williamsburg is allowing me to be the first to let you know that you’ll be able to “Escape the Storm” on DarKoaster starting Friday, May 19. Park members will get to ride even sooner with exclusive early ride access starting on May 11.
Since it was first announced, I’ve been especially intrigued about the attraction. A combination launched roller coaster and dark ride, passengers will make two passes through the former Curse of DarKastle show building. But get this: Because the media, effects, lighting, and other show elements will be different on each lap, passengers may not be aware they will be retracing the same track. Also, riders will straddle the unique snowmobile-themed ride vehicles and grasp its handlebars.
Visitors will also be able to enjoy DarKoaster Black Lager, a limited-release beer, that will be exclusively available at the park.
You can read more about DarKoaster in my preview article. I can’t wait to ride. How about you?
Very much looking forward to this one! I'm planning a return trip to BGW for Howl-O-Scream this year. With two kids quickly overcoming their fear of coasters, this should be a great family ride. Can't wait for your review!
Sweet, any date for pipeline
