Reading this made me realize it really is nuts that Disney World hasn't gotten a big overhaul yet! And it feels very overdue now that I'm watching videos of all the other Space Mountains! Though I will say the Christmas overlay it gets for Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party is sheer delight
Well, Epcot is certainly getting a lot of love. And the Studios has had a lot of attention as well. But yes, the MK, especially Tomorrowland, could use some TLC.
I really hope they leave the track and trains alone in WDW. Please update the effects, queue, and other details. But the coaster itself is a classic arrow that has an INCREDIBLE layout that is very tricky to get your head around. It should remain
While Arrow Dynamics designed and built many Disney attractions (including Matterhorn Bobsleds, the world’s first tubular steel coaster), it was not involved with Space Mountain. It is a common misconception. The Imagineers designed it.
My mistake! Apparently while the track is "arrow track" as in the patented style of rails, your right they didn't design it. Oddly It seems Schwarzkopf may have helped manufacturing or construction somehow? It isn't clear it seems. But anyway. The ride is great as it is, leave the ride system alone IMO
I struggle to explain why, but the original Space Mountain is still one of my favorite Disney rides, probably even my favorite Disney coaster. It feels much wilder than its modest speed and size and I've never had a problem with the roughness. I would be sad to see it significantly changed, but it's not hard to see why they would do it.
I totally get it Jonathan. You may not be consciously aware of it, but it's likely nostalgia plays a big role. For Disney fans, a nearly 50-year-old attraction holds powerful memories. But give Guardians a whirl, and you could see the potential that a revamped SM might have.
There’s been no official word or even a hint. But it seems like a logical progression. The only thing that might throw a wrench into the works is capacity. MK is the most attended park in the world, and it needs to put all those people somewhere. If SM goes dark, even with the added capacity of TRON, that could be a problem.
Also with Splash Mountain probably going to be down for a while in the near future for the update, they may wait to upgrade Space Mountain until Splash Mountain is back up.
I do wonder about the future of Magic Kingdom’s Space Mountain once Tron opens. It almost seems redundant. Not sure if we need two “future” themed indoor roller coasters right next to each other. But Magic Kingdom without Space Mountain just doesn’t seem right. It’s the one ride even non park fans can identify. I guess only time will tell (or some leaked plans from Imagineering).

I agree with Arthur and Tom that once TRON opens, "something" will happen with Space Mountain.

Well, I think they could identify Pirates, HM, IASW…but I get your point.
