Strap in and hang on for this month’s “Rode It! Loved It!” (my reviews of established attractions that are exclusively for paid subscribers). We are heading to Universal Studios Florida to join the Fast & Furious family. If you aren’t a paid subscriber, please consider upgrading and joining the wonderful group of folks who support my work and get bonus features like “Rode It! Loved It!” There are no ads of any kind here at About Theme Parks. That’s a good thing, right? But hey, journalists have bills too. Paid subscriptions are my only source of income here, so how about helping a writer out?

The Universal theme parks have long invited visitors to “ride the movies.” Many of its attractions incorporate large screens and media–literally placing ride vehicles in front of movies–to insert guests in the middle of Hollywood blockbuster action. By sending hapless passengers on a high-speed highway chase, Fast & Furious – Supercharged, the souped-up attraction at Universal Studios Florida, attempts to take the you-are-there action to the extreme. But it largely falls flat and may be the ride that convinced the company to pull back from its over-reliance on screen-based storytelling at its parks.
