Great move on their part. It's insane the amount of wasted space in flat parking lots that could be converted to solar. The car shade is a lovely bonus.

Agreed. I'd imagine other parks will follow Six Flags' lead. I don't know the economics of this, but I'd have to imagine that it will save $ in the long run. (And as I wrote, $ that could--and should--then be used to reinvest in the parks.)

Ooh. Throwing a little shade on the company that is providing shade for the cars in its parking lots! But, I agree. The parks need some help.

I know I'm really late to this comment thread but I just want to say I think this is a great move on the part of Six Flags. I wish they would talk about it more (or maybe they have locally?) because if I lived in that area and was told they were holding off on building more rides to first make themselves more sustainable and environmentally consciousness, I'd be much more patient. Also, those carports are awesome - we have them where I work and the shade is pretty great but they also keep the snow off (not that this is typically a theme park parking lot grievance). 🙂

Never too late to comment! Agreed that this is a significant investment on SF’s part that it should be trumpeting.
