I keep trying to convince my family, and they said that they'd go sometime, but I'm going to disney the week of March 5th. So I probably won't be going for a while.

I went to SDC when I was very young and don't remember much of it but we just took my sons(11-8) there last year with my dad and we loved it very much. Fire in the Hole was open when we were there and it is definitely old but the boys loved it. I think they said they were building another ride very similar to it in the park but not sure. SDC is a great park which blends enough theme park with exciting rides to be fun for all. Highly recommend almost any food there as well especially from the bakery.

Thanks for sharing Jed. I couldn't agree more about the food at SDC. It is among the best in all of parkdom.

We plan on going back within the next couple years. Luckily for us it's only a 4 hour drive for us to get there.

Fire in the Hole is an icon of Silver Dollar City. As a child in the 70s it was one of my favorite rides....and it still is to this day! I'm extremely sad to see this much loved ride go by the wayside! I have been to SDC many many times in my lifetime with my parents and now with my children. I know times change but but still hard to see it go.

I hear you Kim. I guess all good things must come to an end at some point. And as I speculate, perhaps it’s replacement will pay homage in a meaningful way.

I love Blazing Fury Too, but I've never been on fire in the hole. I've heard that it's strikingly similar

Yup. It's virtually identical. If you love Dollywood, you should consider visiting SDC. As I keep saying, it's a wonderful park.

I have loved Fire in the Hole since my first ride as a kid in the mid 80’s and I will sorely miss the nostalgia of its ride. I hope that its replacement will at least attempt to encapsulate a similar charming/campy presentation as opposed to some high tech ride with a bunch of screens. It’s hard to replicate the sights sounds and smells associated with physical sets and animatronics versus the type of dark ride tech used in new fangled attractions, which is fine in certain park settings, but, in my opinion wouldn’t fit the spirit of this beloved park.

I hear ya' Chad. I can't say for sure, but I get the sense that SDC hears you as well. I think they understand their heritage and legacy and take it to heart. For all of its charm, it IS a very old ride, and could be a bear to maintain. It's probably time to address that.

I've unfortunately never had the chance to visit Silver Dollar City, but I absolutely LOVE Blazing Fury at Dollywood and would be incredibly disappointed if it was ever to shut down. Hopefully they'll replace Fire in the Hole with a similar attraction, though it will be difficult to recapture the magic of those classic animatronics.

I don't know what they have in store. But perhaps they'll follow the example of what Knott's Berry Farm did with its Timber Mountain Log Ride and Calico Mine Ride by restoring and preserving the classic attraction.

I rode Fire in the Hole when it was relatively new... I'd guess 1979/1980 (I was a teenager) and I remember loving it.

Haven't been to Silver Dollar City in a very long time... this write-up makes me want to take a trip back that direction.
