Great article Arthur! I've never had a chop suey sandwich but was always amused by the offering. Also, it brought back the nostalgia of Salem Willows as it was always a great local destination for those of us who lived in the area. It's sad that Lowes is closing after so many years, but seems that the Willows is still plugging away as a fairly unique destination in a beautiful spot on the ocean.
Love the article! Salem Willows? I've taken my Richmond-based grandchildren there every summer. We love the merry-go-round, the arcade, and especially the hundred-year-old motor boats.
Now, the chop suey sandwiches? I tried them. But only once. Interesting idea, but, IMHO, quite meh.
But, i'm still sorry that they'll be gone: all of Salem Willows is special. And I expect you'll truly miss your annual gastronomic treat.
